Enjoy this week’s roundup of social media news and tips!

5 Tips for Marketing to Low Attention Spans from Mostly Serious: “We humans now have a shorter attention span than goldfish, which are able to focus for all of nine seconds. A 2015 study conducted by Microsoft surveyed 2,000 people and minored the brain activity of 112 additional people. The study observed a rapid decline in attention span. In that same study, 77% of people aged 18 to 24 responded “yes” when asked “When nothing is occupying my attention, the first thing I do is reach for my phone.” Given our addiction to phones, multiple screens, and constant connectivity, it’s easy to understand how we’ve gotten to this state of abysmal attention spans.”

The Future of Social Media Is Here: These Are the Trends You Need to Know from HubSpot: “It’s time we talked about how you’re using social media. That’s right, this is an intervention. We’re concerned about what you’re doing, and more importantly what you’re not doing. Your lack of adoption of new channels. Your total disrespect of mobile first users. Your reluctance to try video. Your fear of spending money on social ads. Your results. We’re concerned.”

Ignore These Social Media Demographics At Your Peril from Louise Myers: “Wondering why Social Media demographics are important? It harks back to one of the top questions I receive: Which social media platforms do I need to be on? Get this wrong, and you’ll feel like you’re talking to a wall. Try to be on every platform, and you’ll run yourself ragged. Get it right, and you’ll find it much easier to connect with your target audience!”

10 Ted Talks to Inspire and Motivate You by Lilach Bullock: “I have put together 10 of my favorite TED talks that I find motivational and inspiring. So wherever you are right now, on the train, on the way to work or sitting in a coffee shop waiting for a meeting, sit back, plug your earphones in, and enjoy.”
