Social Media Weekly Update – February 22, 2019

February 22, 2019

Social Media Weekly Update

Welcome to the Social Media Weekly Update. This week’s round-up is heavy on websites but also includes two posts on email marketing and one on content marketing. There’s a lot to learn from this week’s experts.

Enjoy them!

Email Marketing

How To Create Personalized Emails That Engage And Convert  from Funnel Overload and by Sola Kehinde: “Unlike generic emails blasted out to your entire list, personalized emails are created for a specific group of people, or a segment of your list, based on information and data you have about them. Information like their names, gender, purchase history, geographical location, browser history, and so on. Though meant for a group or a segment, personalized emails are written with one person in mind.”

The Tools And Plugins You Need To Use The Content Upgrade Technique from Blogging Wizard: “You want more email subscribers, right? More subscribers means a bigger list. And a bigger list means a bigger audience to promote your content and offers to. Maybe you’ve been struggling to build an email list with incentiveless email-optin forms. Or maybe you’re still on the fence about even jumping into this whole email marketing thing. No matter where you’re starting from, this post can help you out.”

Websites

7 Reasons Why Your Website Isn’t Converting Views Into Sales by Gill Andrews: “So, you’ve got yourself a nice website. You thought that now when you built it, they’ll come in packs throwing money at you. But your website isn’t converting, and you don’t know why. Welcome to the life of online business owner! Selling through your website is hard.”

Tips for Getting Your Audience to Stay on Your Website Longer by John Jantsch: “You put a lot of time, effort, and money into developing a website for your business. So you want to be sure that it’s capturing people’s attention and giving them the information they need to feel good about doing business with you.”

11 Reasons Your Website Speed Is Killing Your Social Media Marketing by Nathan Mendenhall: “Often the responsibility for a social media marketing campaign’s success is placed on the social media advertising techniques and content alone without giving proper consideration to the user experience after clicking through to the website. The fact is – you can flawlessly execute the best social media marketing campaign ever, but if your website is slow to load, you won’t get users to convert. Period.”

Content Marketing

3 Reasons Why Nobody Is Reading Your Content (and What to Do About It) by Sujan Patel: “Do you hear crickets when you publish new content? It’s easy to get discouraged, burned out, or even feel like quitting if traffic or engagement doesn’t materialize, especially if you’ve poured your heart and soul into creating a piece of work you’re truly proud of. Nearly all content creators struggle with gaining readership at some point in their careers; but despite what you may think now, there are solutions to this problem.”

Social Media Weekly Update – February 15, 2019

Social Media Weekly Update

I hope you enjoy today’s edition of the Social Media Weekly Update. Once again, my roundup is heavy with Instagram posts from the week but there’s also information about Blogging and LinkedIn. I hope you enjoy all of them.

Blogging

The Life-Changing Joy of Tidying Up Your Writing by Ann Handley: “This essay in today’s newsletter is shorter + sweeter + more tactical than most. Not because this week is Valentine’s Day, but because I’ve been obsessed with Marie Kondo’s Netflix show, Tidying Up. Marie has become my constant internal companion this past week or so. You’ve heard of the show, right? It’s a reality show in which the Japanese lifestyle brand-slash-person ransacks people’s homes. She sifts and sorts, and she fills massive trash bags with stuff that doesn’t ‘optimize joy.'”

A 9-Step Process to Writing More Effective Blog Posts by Amy Wright: “Writing a blog post is one of those things that sounds easy until you try it – particularly when you’re an expert in your field. You want to share your knowledge and expertise, but you also need to produce a post that will strengthen your reputation and expand your network. That’s a lot of pressure, there’s a lot of different elements to get right.”

LinkedIn

LinkedIn Launches its Own Variation of Live-Streaming Called ‘LinkedIn Live’ by Andrew Hutchinson: “As reported by TechCrunch,  live video tool – called ‘LinkedIn Live’ – will provide another option for video content on the platform, which, since LinkedIn launched it’s native video tools back in August 2017, has grown to become the most engaging content option available to users. The video feature will give regular members and businesses additional, immediate capacity to share from conferences, product announcements, conduct Q&As and more.”

Instagram

The Best Ways to Use Instagram’s Video Options in Your Marketing Efforts by Stanley Meytin: “If you aren’t using all of Instagram’s features to promote your business, then your campaign efforts likely aren’t reaching their potential. More and more businesses are using Instagram’s various video options to expand their brand. And they’re reaching a much larger audiences as a result. Simply posting photos of your products is not enough anymore – if you aren’t utilizing videos as well, you could find that your brand will get lost among those who’ve taken the time to focus on diversifying their content approach.”

3 Ways to Improve Instagram Engagement by Brit McGinnis and from Social Media Examiner: “Is Instagram marketing a priority for you? Wondering what types of organic Instagram posts people engage with most? In this article, you’ll discover how you can generate more organic engagement on Instagram.”

The Definitive Guide To Instagram Hashtags from Blogging Wizard and by Olga Rabo: “You know you need to use Instagram hashtags, but aren’t really sure how? Want to learn EXACTLY how to research hashtags that are tailored to your specific account? This extensive Guide to Instagram Hashtags in 2019 will teach you how to create an effective hashtag strategy that will boost the reach of your posts and ultimately help you gain more followers.”

10 Social Media Blogs Every Business Should Follow

Today’s businesses need to be active on social media and maintain a blog and email marketing list. Without those elements, you will fall behind in your business.

With all the changes occurring daily on social media, how can a business owner keep up in light of all of her other responsibilities?

One way is to subscribe to the best social media blogs in the business. So I’ve tried to make your work easier by summarizing the social media bloggers that I rely on.

Social Media Examiner

Social Media Examiner states that it’s a magazine, not a blog. Whatever you call it, its posts are always top-notch. It really sets the industry standard. Social Media Examiner also has a podcast and sponsors an annual social media conference in San Diego. Its recent posts included information on Instagram stories, best practices, and Facebook ad mistakes that could be hurting you.

Jeff Bullas

Jeff Bullas has appeared in Forbes, Inc., The New York Times, and The Huffington Post. Entrepreneur lists him among the fifty online marketing influencers to watch. And Inc.com lists him as one of twenty digital marketing influencers to watch. His blog is cutting-edge and one that’s important to follow.

HubSpot

HubSpot publishes some of the most in-depth blogs on social media in the industry. Recent blog posts covered the eight best professional bio examples, 18 core company values that will shape your culture and inspire your employees, and the state of email lead capture in 2019. There is so much to learn, and HubSpot always turns out among the best blog posts in the industry.

Hootsuite

Hootsuite is a scheduling application for numerous social media networks. But it also produces an interesting blog. Recent topics included articles about Facebook’s pixel, how to track social mentions, how to use Instagram as a business, and smart ways to drive conversions on social media.

Buffer

Buffer is always mentioned as one of the best social media blogs to follow. Its blog posts are also in-depth and informative. Buffer, similar to Hootsuite, also features a scheduling application for numerous social media networks. It is among the top blogs in the industry.

Seth Godin

Seth Godin is a marketing genius. He publishes a blog, writes books, produces videos, and does public speaking. His posts are always insightful.

Rebekah Radice

Rebekah Radice always publishes interesting posts on hot topics. She is the founder of RadiantLA, a training and development company, speaks internationally, and is the author of Social Media Mastery: A Comprehensive Guide to Strategic Growth.

Social Media Today

This is an excellent blog to subscribe to if you want to keep up with the changes happening daily in social media.

Mari Smith

Mari is considered the queen of Facebook. She knows this network in and out, and even Facebook hired her to work with small businesses in 2015. IBM recently named Mari as one of seven women who is shaping digital marketing. If you want to master Facebook, read her blog and take her courses.

Pam Moore

Pam Moore describes herself as half geek, half marketing, and 100% social nut. She produces a podcast, which she transcribes and uses as a blog post. If you go to her website, you receive a free download of a 2019 content calendar template.

Is there a social media blogger you think I should have included on this list? Let me know by leaving a comment below.
